Ernest Hemingway
Died 2nd July 1961
Ernest Hemingway is one of the great novelists of all time. He won the Pulitzer prize in 1952 for "The Old Man and the Sea" and Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954.

Louis Armstrong
Died 6th July 1971
Louis Armstrong, also known as "Satchmo" and "Pops", was an American Jazz legend in the 1920's. His voice and outstanding instrumental skills won him fans of all colour across America, during a time when the country was racially divided.

Kate Sheppard
Died 13th July 1934
Kate Sheppard was a women's suffragist who dedicated her work to campaiging for equal rights for women. Her passionate work resulted in New Zealand being the first country in the world to grant all woman the right to vote in a general election.

Bruce Lee
Died 20th July 1973
Bruce Lee is one of the greatest martial artists of all time. Also a movie actor, instructor and philosopher, he helped to positively influence the way Asians were represented in America.

His most famous film - "Enter the Dragon" grossed over $200 million at the box office, over 200 times the cost of production.

Bruce died at the young age of 32 "by misadventure" when he had a reaction to a painkiller his friend gave him.

Amy Winehouse
Died 23rd July 2011
Amy Winehouse is a British singer and songwriter. Her music skyrocketed into fame with the release of her Grammy Award winning album "Back to Black" in 2006.

Amy Winehouse's issues with substance abuse garnered widespread media attention and she disappointed many fans turning up to concerts drunk, or cancelling last minute.

She married once and divorced shortly after.
Amy died at the very young age of 27 from alcohol poisoning. A foundation was set up in her name to provide suport to vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

Vincent van Gogh
Died 29th July 1890
Vincent van Gogh is a world famous and influential post impressionist artist, however he was relatively unknown until after his death.

Vincent van Gogh suffered from depression and psychotic episodes which ultimately led to him ending his own life at the age of 37.

Vincent sold one painting during his life for around $2,000 in today's terms. Since his death his paintings has sold for hundreds of millions of dollars.
His nephew opened up the Vincent van Gogh Museum which is one of the most visited museums in the world.
