🕯 Owen lit a candle remember when As a second year apprentice we were working on a job in Collaroy when I cut two pieces of timber short and boy did Roy give it to me. A few hours later he did the same thing himself, I laughed so hard, even when the peace of timber came rushing past my head. So 40 years later people want to know why I laugh so...

Ralph McCleery The following stories were read at Roy McCleery's remembrance by Kim McCleery (nephew). It seems the local primary school do excursions to visit the residents of Banyula and then the students are set an assignment to write about the person(s) they spend time with. We felt that these stories were just too good in every aspect not to share with you all. The One and Only Roy Roy was a charismatic man and all of the class would flock to him on our visits to Banyula. L learnt that he was an electrician, who owned his own company called Home Maintenance. According to Roy, he was making tonnes of money by the minute. His employees were working hard and getting rich. They were well compensated for the hard work labour. Roy liked animals but his favourite animal was the dog, loyal and good company, just like him. He liked sport and computers, action movies and books. When Roy was younger he had dark brown hair style like John Wick. Surprisingly he has a beard and always wore shirts with colour because it made him happy. Scientists proved that if you wear colourful cloths, you feel better and happy and it shows in your emotions. Roy was still certainly a happy man, full of playful stories and good humour. Roy lived at a nursing home for one month. His age is 91, but he acts like he is 10, making the most of each day. He would say 9+1=10 so he was 10 years old. All of 5/6K fought to be in a group with Roy. He was a lovely man who certainly left a great impression on me. by Louis Marteene Roy At the dusk of dawn,Roy raised from his bed, smelling the lovely fresh air. He starts his day with a fresh cup of tea. On his way to work he got a call, the man on the phone was the boss of Bed 'R' Us. “We don't have enough money to keep the business going. We will have to shut down”! He started to trudge back home. On his was, he heard something on the radio from a nearby store. He stopped to hear the breaking news story but didn't see the car pelting toward him. Roy was critical in hospital. The poor guy was paralysed. It took years of hard work to begin walking again but Roy never lost his sense of humour. He was always looking on the bright side of life. That work ethic to begin walking again was transferred to his career and he successfully started is own business, Home maintenance. He stayed working for himself until he decided to retire. Once he couldn't take care of himself independently he moved into Banyula Village and terrorised the staff with his wicked banter. He was full of laughs and one-liners. This is where our class met him and got to know about his life. All of the students would ask Miss Brown whether they could be grouped with Roy. We feel lucky to have met such a wonderful and playful man and to learn he lived such a full life. We will all miss you Roy. by Caid V. W. and Jackson D.
