Angus Tattle Penny and I met in the early eighties at Grace Bros on Broadway (Sydney). I was a new trainee and Penny was the training officer for our group. We became firm friends from those days onwards. We took holidays together, both overseas and local camping/boating trips. We went to concerts together - Dire Straits, U2, Moody Blues, just to name a few. We made up a comprehensive collection of cocktails - or 'Concocktails' as we dubbed them - these required dedicated tasting and revising, of course. I can't count the number of books I read at Penny's recommendation, including the works of our mutual hero, Terry Pratchett (RIP). Together we helped each other over Life's bad bits and celebrated the good bits. I shall miss her so much. Rest in peace, Penelope Anne Townshend and thank you for being my friend.

Penny When I think of Penny, I think of her voice – the laughter in it, the thoughtfulness and kindness. The odd sweary moment too, of course, when it came to matters like politics and injustices. Her soft Australian accent that seemed so exotic to me as a child. Penny was for me that adult we all need growing up – she had the ability to always...
