    Patrick Ryan

    30 Mar 1953 - 15 Mar 2020

    Family and friends

We have lost a great man. Patrick Francis Ryan aka “The Senator” aka “Pops” lived a great life. He loved finding the next adventure and sometimes trouble. The stories about him are often legendary. We will all miss how well he told those stories and how easily he could get us all laughing. We tried to get him to record his past adventures but he wasn’t the type, the man needed an audience. ... more

That was because that was Kai's t-ball team name that year. Supporting Kai with his T-ball was Pops TOP priority and made him so happy.

Patrick & Arley Ryan Pops loved Golden Retrievers. His Goldens throughout the years were his true best pals. There was first "Marley", and then years down the road there was "Bongo". The amount of walks, "num nums", and road trips these dogs experienced was unprecedented. The final pup here (the family pup so to speak), is named, "Cubby". Pops named him after his beloved Chicago Cubs. Cubby was given to Pops by Liz and Patrick, acquired just days before his diagnoses. Cubby gave not only Pops, but the family that was by his side these last months so much needed love and joy. Cubby is now living at the farm in AZ with Liz, Patrick and the two kids. He is the best pup!

Patrick & Arley Ryan DELIGHTS. We love our "big shake little shakes", chocolate delights, pies, ice cream, sweets and treats! One of the ways to his heart was...desserts. During his Hospice days he received numerous bags of homemade cookies, breads, pies, and chocolates from family and neighbors. Thank you!

From the moment I (Arley) was born, I was a daddy’s girl to the max. Pops taught me how to have fun and to live without fear and to love life. He taught me how to love fresh air, how to recognize and appreciate spirit, how to laugh, cook, love the outdoors, and help others before helping yourself. Thank you dad for being me and Kai's best friend...

Patrick & Arley Ryan What an awesome guy. We will miss his high shrieking two fingered whistle. His strong hand grip that puts you to the floor. His special way of making anyone and everyone laugh. We will miss calling him and seeking his advice and encouragement. We will miss the love he had for volunteering, his love for pies, the Cubs, gardening, storms and the outdoors. But most of all, we will miss telling us he loves us. But his spirit will carry on and we pray he will continue to help guide us on our own journeys.

Pops, I remember well a whitewater rafting trip that we went on around 2006. You came up from California while Arley was living in Estes Park at the Key museum and I came over from Fort Collins. This particular rafting outfit really appreciated the water fights that can take place between rafts when your not descending down rapids and waterfalls....

My dear friend Patrick and I shared so much fun and laughs in a short amount of time. We camped, bike rides, trip to Cayman Islands, Beaver Island where we saw the Northern Lights and of course working together at AJ Ryan's. We laughed and we cried. I first met Pat at church. He used to usher for my SAT night mass at Our Lady of Solitude parish. He was teaching high school religion too. I thought he was a pious piss-pot. Then I met him in the rooms of AA and learned the truth. I always loved Pat. He was good. And he likes to have fun. I’ll never forget how he offered to sit with my mom wh...

And all of the sudden Pat is yelling that “something has me” He wasn’t faking this time. I managed to get him up from the couch enough to see that the cover was attached to his ass some how. We met Pat about 9 years ago and from the very start we knew he had a great soul. His spirit, humor, and stories were something that kept us laughing. Not a day goes by that I don't see our dogs over at the fence just waiting for Pat to show up. God speed Pat.

Jake Fuson Pops, you will be missed. If you were lucky enough to know Pat, you’d know was a special man. He had such a tremendous impact on everyone who had the pleasure of spending any amount of time with him. I think within a week of meeting him I was already imitating his hilarious gestures and his cool, old Chicago-style sayings. He had a way of being wise and noble while still being hilarious and silly at the same time. You could tell he really lived life for the right reasons and pulled every bit of happiness out of life. He loved His family and everyone knew it. He was a friend, son, brother, father to two awesome children, and a grandpa and best friend to my son, Kai. I’ll miss seeing Kai’s eyes light up when I told him I was taking him to spend time with his Pops. I’ll miss picking up Kai at his house and leaving with homemade cookies, home-grown tomatoes or some other kind of “goods” that Pops would always offer. Pat—It was a joy and pleasure watching you be a best friend to my boy, and I will always make sure Kai knows how much you loved him. Rest In Peace, we’ll see you again.

Pat was my friend for 60 years. I met him in first grade at St. Jude the Apostle grammar school, it was 1960. Pat was somewhat notorious from an early age. Everyone knew Pat, and he was everyone's friend (the nuns maybe not so much). As adults, we'd speak on the phone a few times a year, for most years. Our conversations were always as easy ...

Brother Pat💚Where do I begin? When we first moved to South Holland in 1959, you were 5 and I was 4 . Mr. Eric's house next store was under construction . He was having a brand new gorgeous brick back porch being built. On that porch was a fresh bucket of TAR Pat & I started to play with it! An hour later we were both topped with tar🙁🙁. Our m...

Peter Swiderski Uncle Pat, Spending time with you and the family in California and Arizona was one of the greatest experiences. It was such a gift to have those moments together working, relaxing at the spa, walking bongo, playing baseball and watching Kai. The Cubs even won the world series, it was very special. Those memories will keep me company always, thank you from the bottom of my heart for them. I could go to work with a guy like you any day and love it man. Thank you for all the healing, love, fellowship and sharing the pops pie with me. One love my friend.
