We were all very sad to hear about Karla. She was so kind and helpful. She was one of the first people we met at Charter and her supportiveness and warmth will be missed by everyone.
I'll always remember Karla as a committed colleague trying to do everything possible for students to get the education they deserve, with a never-fading smile on her face. Always calm, always relaxed, always smiling, always getting what's needed to be done done - she'll be sorely missed by anyone who's ever met her!
Karla was a very nice person to work with and have around. I had the pleasure to work with her at Saint Michael and All Angels Academy from 2009 to 2011 in maths department. My children attended the Charter school, so we used to see each other during parent evenings and catch up. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this diffi...
Viviane Wild Karla was so very special. All these messages show how much she was loved and how much she’s going to be missed by all. For the ways she helped Raphael and so many other students to bloom! She was a rare flower. Our deepest sympathy to her family, colleagues and friends. May Karla’s soul rest in peace. Her memory will stay with us forever.
Ms pappon... I honestly am so shocked about what has happened. you have taught me so much over the 4 year(ish) I have been in your class. Your classroom door was always open for anyone and everyone. I’m so grateful and thankful that i had a teacher like you. 🧡
We are very grateful for Mrs Pappon's imense capacity for love. She helped my son with his maths and was so kind and loving towards him. I am very glad she was appreciated by everyone and had a happy and fulfilling life. The world is better for her life. Sincere condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and students.
Karla was a wonderful teacher, neighbour and fellow mum. She was honest, authentic and strong. I feel very lucky to have met her. My heart goes out to her family and I hope they get some relief from reading these amazing testimonies to Karla.
Karla was an all-round lovely human being and we will miss her genuine warmth and support very much. We only had the pleasure of knowing her for 1 year but it took no time at all to feel as though we'd known her forever. Karla was the first teacher we met at the CND and she made us feel so welcome from the outset. She worked incredibly hard to supp...
I played club play tennis with Karla and loved her energy and competitive spirit, always accompanied with a warm smile and effervescent personality. A thoroughly lovely and kind person who clearly gave a lot to all those she loved and inspired. Karla will be sadly missed and my sincere condolences to her family and all who had the pleasure of knowi...
You will be greatly missed by all who knew you. It was an honour to meet you Karla and you was an AMAZING mentor and manager. Salma
Karla was an amazing and kind role model. Such a lovely person to work with and so inspiring. She was so caring, my thoughts are with her family xxx
Karla was not only a huge support to all the students she met, but to every member of staff too. When I started at Charter School my only experience in a secondary school had been attending one, but her guidance helped me find my feet. She was so driven and passionate about her job and she was truly an inspirational educator. I empathise with he...
Ms Pappon helped me more than words can describe during my time at Charter. She was the reason that I was able to pass all of my GCSEs. She was always so kind and patient, and I saw that with all of the students that she helped. She was an excellent teacher, who went above and beyond the call of duty. I will always be grateful for all that she did ...
Karla has been an incredible support in helping my son settle in at school . Coming from another country, with minimal language skills, an adult can feel lost, let alone a 12 year old child. Karla did her best to make the adjustment as smooth as possible, helping him every step of the way, being a second mother at school. She was always open, patie...
I met Karla Pappon in February, 2017 when I started working at TCS as an LSA. I worked with her for 1.5 years, supporting students in her classes and seeking advice about how best to support our students. I will never forget her bright and bubbly charisma, as we often bumped into eachother early in the morning in the office. She inspired me with he...
My dearest Karla, An absolute ray of sunshine in everyone’s life, I keep thinking how lucky the kids were at the charter school, to have your guidance and positive attitude, however they were the lucky ones as well as the teaching faculty to have an amazing human making us smile everyday. I miss scaring you most mornings when your sitting in your...
Karla was one of the first people I met at Charter, and one of the goodbyes I remember clearest. She was such an incredible constant and rock throughout my time there. I’m not sure I can use an adjective that hasn’t been already used beautifully by others. I’ll just share memories in case someone sees and it brings a smile. I’ll always remember ho...
Karla - amazing colleague, a joy to be around, fun, great teacher and a wonderful mum to your lovely children who I had the privilege to teach. You will be so missed. Lots of love to the Pappon family xxx
this news shocked me so much. I always feel a real sense of unfairness when "one of the good ones" dies. Karla was selfless in her work supporting those with the greatest needs, fighting their corner and making so much difference to their lives. She was also a great friend, sharing a love of maths, tennis and bilingualism and we had many a fun ch...
Sarah Walsh Karla was a focal point of so many institutions - North Dulwich LTC, the Charter, Southwark Mixed tennis league - she was also a member of Old College, which is where I last saw her before this tragic event. True to form, she was smiling, and said a cheery hello - she was someone who could light up any interaction! As someone who loved sport and exercise, it seems fitting that she departed the world whilst on her bike. The legacy she leaves is only too clear from the postings here. May she rest in peace.
Without Karla I am not sure how my three dyslexic sons would have coped with school life! She was so vibrant, open, friendly, compassionate, supportive and understanding with her slightly rebel smile and authentic human warmth. Her presence over the years in my sons’ lives will never be forgotten. Her phone calls home after a detention or behaviou...
Remember when you joined charter Condolences to the entire family A great person inside and outside ....thoughts are with you all at this time.
I have met Miss Pappon 10 years ago when my first son started year 7 . These past years with my other children attending the school( five ) she was always available , a great listener and always happy to help. Our conversations were not only professional but she was always here for advice or encouragement. When they heard about the sad news each...
I am so sad to hear that Mrs Pappon was taken from us. She was an amazing person and Charter school will miss her. I remember she gave me two red cards for not paying attention in class and she would always say" it's not down to me it's the school policy". My last conversation with her was when she told me that she was proud of me for achieving ...
We'll always remember your enthusiasm, your kindness and your dedication to our daughter. You've helped give her the confidence to move forward in life, you'll always be part of her successes. We'll miss you and we send all our sympathy to her family, her friends and colleagues at Charter.
Karla was the most genuine, kind and caring person. Not only was she there to help and guide my son through his 7 years at the Charter, but she also helped him to help others through maths mentoring. His lasting memory of Karla is of her in her room, smiling and ready to help. Karla, always smiling, always helping, always there. You will be sore...
Karla was an amazing teacher to my daughter. She had a warmth and energy to her personality which inspired all children to learn but which was particularly helpful for those who don’t find learning straightforward. A compassionate and thoughtful woman. You will be missed Karla.
Karla (along with the rest of the SEN department) was instrumental in settling my son Brandon, who has Autism, in his first year at Charter North Dulwich (2019 -2020). She was also his Maths teacher, and due to her constant encouragement it quickly became his favourite subject in Year 7. Although we have only known her briefly she has left an inde...
Karla, like so many have already mentioned was a lovely individual. So kind, so caring, always made time for you, outstanding teacher who went above and beyond for students. Karla really, just was an amazing individual. My fondest memories were always the giggles we would have in the summer term. Karla always arranged the GCSEs for students who s...
Ms Pappon was such very kind and supportive teacher to our children. We send our deepest sympathy to her family and friends. We will also be thinking of her friends and colleagues at Charter in this most difficult of years.
Watching Karla tirelessly contacting parents, organising LSA timetables, running tennis club, chasing students for work, setting up early morning interventions (etc!) was truly an inspiration. It was impossible not to marvel at her incredible warmth, drive and commitment. But in spite of this ceaseless activity, it somehow seemed that she was abl...
Karla was a mother who I initially knew from Dulwich Hamlet times. She was a fan of the local firework display that we always took the children to. Then, when we moved into secondary Ella was lucky enough to have her as a form tutor. Ella (now 21) has just said her first memory of her was having a talk to her about her smooth legs! She apparently t...
Karla permeated so positively throughout the Charter School. She always came to me with solutions. Issues with breakfast club, individual timetables, extra curricular support, exam appeals, community language support were solved effortlessly for the sake of students. She cared. Cared so much. She took on a Year 7 Spanish class the day before term s...
I’m deeply saddened to hear the news of Mrs Pappon. My first ever encounter with her was when my son was struggling with his transition from primary to secondary. This was on a Friday evening and I can remember her taking her notebook out, with bullet points of things to work on and put in place for his transition. I just remember thinking to mysel...
I found Karla's dedication and positivity inspiring. The time and effort she put in to support her colleagues, to help lead the department and to support the students was immense. She worked so hard but was always one of the most positive people I've known. So many of the students loved Karla. Such a dedicated, caring and kind person. She will be m...
My memory of Karla, is just someone who was so fun loving, so full of good and a deeply caring kind person. I would also say you can see her influence in many many people. She will be very deeply miss Oliver
Ms Pappon was a great teacher to me. She was caring and enthusiastic. I would treasure all the memories I had with Ms Pappon. ❤️
One of the nicest teachers in the school. Did so much for me. Really appreciated it. Really going to miss her. Edie
Karla was the first teacher that I met at The Charter when I came in to discuss my worries about Edie's Maths as she moved up from primary school. She immediately put me at ease and reassured me that all would be well. Over the years she taught, supported and encouraged Edie with patience and kindness both in and out of the classroom. She was at th...
Ms Pappon was an amazing teacher. I was incredibly helped by her and the feeling of emptiness sank into my body when I heard the news. She will be incredibly missed and I hope she will Rest In Peace.
Dear Karla, thanks fo the sense of normality and humanity you brought into our profession, well mixed with high professional standards; thanks for sharing that sense of 'wonder' for the education system neither of us could ever comprehend, your contagious laughter was required to make sense of it. So many memories and anecdotes, but mostly, you cha...
Karla was an amazingly supportive teacher throughout the 5 years both my sons have been at Charter. She always listened to my worries throughout the years supported us all through them, even through lockdown her continuous contact was an amazing help. She will truly be missed by us all.
I worked with Karla at AMRTC. I would always remember Karla as a generous, kind, resilient, supportive, incredibly possitive, gentle, meek individual who always wore a smile on her face. She was such a beautiful person inside and out. Her legacy will live on for a very long time. She was the epitome of someone who was truly committed to the well-b...
Dear wonderful Karla, Everyone will miss her so much. She was such a vibrant, energetic and integral part of The Charter School. I feel privileged to have known her as part of The Friends of The Charter for many years, she was always involved and enthusiastic and fun. Much love to all her family.
I am so grateful to Karla who was a support not only to my children but also myself, navigating through the rollercoaster of life. Karla was generous and selfless, committed to the children and her school and all the people close to her. Her spirit was so strong - always throwing herself into things with Gusto. She has done so much for so many. Sh...
For those who did not know, besides being an excellent teacher, Karla was also a great musician. We had a band together many years ago in Brazil. I was always amazed by her kind and uplifting smile and energy. She had an incredible ability to lift the mood of those around her with her creativity and inspiration. I miss her so much. ❤️
Karla, what is there to say. You were such a supportive and thoughtful friend and colleague. I know the students and staff of SEN will forever keep you in their thoughts, as I will too. You gave everything you had to your students day in and day out. Your banter at the water cooler could give any Englishman a run for their money. I'm so sorry you w...
The loss of Karla Pappon is a huge sorrow for the school. She leaves behind a great legacy that does her honour in the lives of colleagues, parents and children she worked with and supported so beautifully. With love and sorrow to her family
I have so many fond memories of you Karla. The extraordinary lengths you would go to in order to support our students, our occasional disagreements and laughter when resolved, your tongue in cheek suggestions for changes of school policy or procedure, but most of all your unparalleled kindness, determination and professionalism.
Simon Wakely In the hills above Valencia is a tortoise named Karla. She will be here for at least 100 years. Karla is a sulcata tortoise - the 3rd largest in the world! It seemed the most appropriate name for our new addition. Lisa and I were shocked to hear of Karla’s death. Her concern for the students in LSD was genuine and deep. Her professionalism beyond reproach. It was a joy to work with her - even when she was telling me off (as she was doing the day before her accident!). She did however spend a significant part of any day looking for one or more of the following: her water bottle, her glasses, her board pens or board rubber, her green tea powder or any one of her pens! I was lucky to have known her and I am proud she was my friend
I have tried to write an entry several times but each time it has seemed an insurmountable challenge - not for the want of anything to say but rather because I just don’t know where to start. The 200 days a year we spent in each other’s company for the past 8 years were often filled with frustration but also with laughter, wicked impersonations and...
Ms Pappon was a great teacher to my daughter. Emily had Portuguese GCSE lessons with her, we were both terribly sad when we heard about her death. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and pupils. Love from all of us Cecilia, Justin, Emily, Jasmine and Lucas
I have so many great memories of Karla from my time working at The Charter school. Such a an amazing colleague who always went above and beyond for students. Karla made a difference to the lives of so many students and their families. Always smiling and always bringing joy to anyone she worked with. Rest in peace.
We were very fortunate to have known Karla. We are heartbroken and we send the deepest sympathy to her family, the Charter School and her colleagues; all of whom will be even more heartbroken. It has taken us some time to take this in; and many attempts to write a thank you in a few words, when this could easily be a book. Karla was one of a kind, ...
Ms Pappon was supportive of me when I first started out at Charter when I first had difficulties in my learning. She was patient and kind inspite of my overly-talkativative and disruptive nature. Ms Pappon gave me full support when I took up an extra GCSE and spent much of her own time in helping me out. She was a kind, reassuring and selfless figu...
Every time I have thought about writing a message, my heart sinks and the tears flow. It has been a weird start to the term, coming back to school after a national Lockdown and facing the new normal, but the one person who was keeping our department stable and bringing some sort of normality was Karla. The news came as such a shock to our team and ...
It has taken me ages to come back to reality from this tragic news and come to terms with it. Ms Pappon was truly an inspiration to those around her. If it wasn’t for her, I would have left Charter a long time ago. She was my Guardian Angel and she brightened everyone’s day, every day! Ms Pappon was one of the greatest mentors for me at Charter a...
Dearest Karla, my colleague, my good friend, my mentor 💜 I have been reluctant to write on here, although I have encouraged many to do so- because I do not want accept the reality. We met in September 2011 when I started working in the SEN department at The Charter School. You took me under your wing, mamma Karla. The mother of the SEN departm...
