Sandra Udle Jumping ahead a couple of years, here Karey is getting ready to write her NCLEX-RN exam.
Sandra Udle When you look at the various topics under Policy and Advocacy on the website, Karey has been involved with 15 of 17 of them. During her work at CNA she has worked on fact sheets, position statements, briefs, backgrounders, has made many presentations, and met with various government officials, all on behalf of CNA. Let's take a closer look at just a few of the projects Karey has worked on since she started at CNA in 2015, shall we?
Sandra Udle One of the many meetings held with government officials Feb 6, 2016, Karey and David G met the Senator Chantal Petitclerc to discuss Bill 45. Karey also on Sept 14, 2017, Karey appeared with Lynda Balneaves before the Senate’s standing committee on social affairs, science and technology regarding Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act.
Sandra Udle Karey worked with the Violence Evidence Guidance Action (VEGA) organization on the major public health problem of family violence. She was our CNA member on the PHAC National Guidance and Implementation Cttee on the Public Health Response to Family Violence. Here Karey accompanied Karima Velji, a Past President of CNA, at the VEGA NGIC meeting with Judy Waldman, President of the Canadian Forensic Nurses Association (CFNA), held in Ottawa.
Sandra Udle As Karey is certified in Community Health, she worked closely with the Canadian Home Care Association and the College of Family Physicians of Canada to launch the report: Better Home Care in Canada: A National Action Plan in 2016 and 2017. Sandra Udle Here are some photos that Karey took when she attended the annual Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov 11, 2016. CNA has presented flowers at the Nurses Memorial in the Centre Block and laying the wreath at the Cenotaph for many years. LCol Blanchard, Capt Chan and Capt MacFadyen all accompanied Karey in 2016.

Sandra Udle Karey led the partnership development between CNA with Choosing Wisely Canada, as well as developed the first three CWC nursing lists: General, Gerontology and Infection Prevention and Control. She also presented the CNA's work to improve patient safety outcomes to the National Health Caucus on Dec 7, 2016.
Sandra Udle Karey was a leader in advocating for harm reduction approach in nursing. She led the development of reports, position statements, resources and briefs, highlighting nursing leadership and making a significant impact in this space.

Sandra Udle Karey was instrumental in ensuring that CNA was a member of the Pan-Canadian Framework Development Cttee and supporting the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases recommendations, along with CNA becoming a Member of the Federal Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance and Use in Canada working group. Karey also worked with various organizations in the creation of many tools for practice for nurses.
Sandra Udle On the national and international front of AMR, Karey worked in ensuring that nurses were engaged and recognized as key leaders in AMR, including advocating for ICN to include AMS in their strategic priorities.
Sandra Udle On May 12, 2017, CNA celebrated the National Nursing week with our Policy and the Credentialing Centre nurses. Marlene Haines, a returning nursing student was there for the event.
Sandra Udle Under the Antimicrobial Resistance topic, June 15th, 2017, Karey appeared before the House of Commons standing committee on health to present CNA's recommendations on AMR.

Sandra Udle Hill Day 2017 - Karey was one of the many staff and Board members who went to meet with various MPs on the Hill.
Sandra Udle As a public health expert, Karey led the infectious diseases portfolios at CNA including Zika, Ebola and influenza!
Sandra Udle Another one of Karey's projects was Aging and Seniors Care. She worked with the team on the 2016 CNA brief to Senate Standing Cttee on Social Affairs, Science and Tech regarding recommendations with Dementia in Canada, was one of the consultants on the Canadian Senates' Dementia in Canada November 2016 report, and worked on various CNA's press releases. Recently, she has been working CNA's Key Messages on Covid-19 and Long Term Care.
Sandra Udle Along with securing the SUAP Cannabis funding, Karey also worked on position statements, handouts, multiple briefs and reports submitted to government officials between 2015-2020.

Sandra Udle During these challenging and turbulent times, Karey has led CNA's COVID-19 response with clear and steady guidance, applying her public health and policy expertise to advocate for nurses, develop resources and support the healthcare workforce.
