Aunt Karen came to at least one baseball game a summer of the 10 years Thomas played baseball. When he’d get up to bat she’d say “come on Thomas! Hit one out of the park!” Another time, towards Christmas she got an idea to give us all a break to “shop or wrap” and she would watch all the kids. ALL OF THEM. I think it ended up being 8 kids. I said...
Emily Harris 43 years of memories. How could I possibly narrow them down…Karen gave me a best friend, my oldest friend, to grow up with. Monica Erin- My Aunt Karen made sure Monica and I always got “special treats” (ice cream sundaes from McDonald’s) she made me try chicken livers. Ugh. Boating on lake Cumberland. But my favorite memories revolves around how much she loved my momma. Her sister and best friend…watching my mom deteriorate from Alzheimer’s, was something none of were prepared for. But she never missed a chance to stop over and see her. The one person my mom never forgot. We made a decision we could take a trip out west before my moms Alzheimer’s got too bad. Karen decided she would meet us in Custer State Park, SD. (Where mind you the Buffalo actually roam free!)And they’re bigger than most vehicles! Karen slipped in one night just before dark while we were around the campfire. Mom said “what are you doing here!?! How did you get here!?!” Karen said “I took my imaginary plane! We’ve had this planned for a while.” Mom had a blast-even after Chris got us lost…in a city of 31 people. (Thomas will remember the name) after being lost for most of a day…we finally reached Walldrug! (15 minutes before closing) but mom saw ice cream and Karen said “come on! Let’s go get ice cream!” Mom giggled like a school girl. Karen loved my mom so much. And was there until the end. She’s been there for all of us “kids” through births, deaths, marriages, divorces. The good, bad and the ugly. I am thankful I got to be a part of her life, however small. (I lived to make her laugh) Monica, Dan, Todd…these memories will carry you through this impossible time. When it seems too hard, be kind to yourself. Lean on others. I couldn’t have imagined my life without my aunt Karen. Or without that wonderful young woman I got to grow up with. Here’s a wink, one last time from me to you. I’ll see you when I see you. Love you all. ❤️
Monica Deal The sparkle in her eye is because she is watching Willie Nelson.
Every time I came to visit Ohio she would take me to a place in Bellbrook I think that had all these yard ornaments. She always had to buy one. I especially loved the one that spins with birds on it. She loved her wild life.
The first time I met your mother I thought that you and her looked exactly alike. She was so kind and sweet! A person that you would look up to. She was so strong and you could tell she could build just about anything . She reminded me of someone I wanted to be like when I was her age. The last time I saw her was at your house because I forgot yo...
Aunt Karen would always let Dianna and I spend the night at her apartment and let us sleep with her in her beautiful canopy bed. We felt so special spending time with her. And loved her so much. I have so many funny stories of the things we would get into. Karen was fun!
