Ursula Reichenbach On the back of this photo handwritten: “Halle an der Saale, August 1915, Wilhelm 1 Jahr alt”. “Halle an der Saale, August 1915, Wilhelm one year old”. Note: Halle (Saale) is a city in the southern part of the German state Saxony-Anhalt. Löbejün is located 15 km north of Halle (Saale).

Ursula Reichenbach Captain Friedrich Johann Heinrich Schenk - who fought with the Turks in WWI. I'm attaching a picture of him, with the Gallipoli Star from Sultan Mehmed Reshad V (1915). He was also con-decorated by the Kaiser with the Cross. I "discovered" this story about 2 years ago, after reading a chronicle about him written by his son Martin. Our aunt Renate found the chronicle in Germany, and brought it to us. Then I was able to link the story with the Gallipoli Star I found at my Mom's house 7 years ago (she didn't have a clue on what that was). Exciting! Maybe this explains my attraction to Islam, hehehe. I learnt that my great-grand father was also found of Turkish culture and food. After all, he lived in Turkey and was part of the Ottoman Navy for at least 4 years. I also found something about him in a German book on German ships sold to the Turks. He was the Captain of the Goben. We need to do more research about all this!

Berger.

Ursula Reichenbach This photo shows Margarethe (Grethe) Berger the younger sister of Dorothea Bertha Berger (Annemarie’s mother) and Friedrich (Fritz) Schnapperelle (born in Schlettau, Löbejün, landowner and farmer in Schlettau). In addition, Dorothea had an elderly sister (Lisbeth Berger) and a brother (Wilhelm Berger). Wilhelm in a very young age (as a teenager) was severely injured in an extremely bad accident in father’s quarry, which he survived (severe head injury). Unfortunately, Wilhelm committed suicide only fear years later.
