Isa Gomez Fede was the best average of the generation 2006 from Universidad de las Americas-Puebla, Mexico. He got 100/100, graduated with Suma Cum Laude and received a medal made of gold from the governor of Puebla. That day he stood up in front of hundreds of people to give a speech. I remember I was schocked by the fact that he did not take any paper with him!. He just memorized his speech, it was short but meaningful and generated a huge impact in the audience. Back then, he discussed what it took to succeed as a student and what was his recipe to be the best of the best. He mentioned words such as discipline, determination and hard work. Also love, admiration and gratitute towards us, his beloved family. He even joked of spending his weekends in the library instead of going to the movies with his friends. Fede was always ahead of the game , he knew exactly what he wanted and he worked hard to get it. He was an inspiration to every single person listening to him that day, and me and my parents could not be any prouder.

Lee Feldman I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Federico and to learn from him on his persistent pursuit of good. I met Federico serendipitously when the AI 4 Good track at SXSW in Austin caught my eye. I was listening to presentations and Federico was presenting his views and noticed he worked at MSFT and in my organization! From there, he brought me in and taught me about all the 4 Good initiatives he was working through. I then had the opportunity to work with Federico on presenting his work and on hackathon projects. I learned so much from him and the rest of the Intercept crew. The world lost an amazing person with so much potential to change the world. He will be missed dearly. Rest easy, Federico. sankar eswarasubramanian Federico loved outdoors and he knew a lot about Pacific North West wilderness more than anyone. To spend some time in the outdoors, we decided to go on a hiking trip on a Winter weekend. Being a rookie, I wasn't well equipped and I started slipping on the ice and kept falling down. Looking at how I was struggling with walking on ice with sneakers, Federico quickly removed the only ice gear (cleats and hiking stick) he was using and wore it around my shoes to protect me. Federico walked for several miles without any ice gear, limping and slipping on the ice, risking his own safety, so that I can hike/walk without hurting myself. He didn't think twice about him at that moment - he was worried about my safety more than his. On that day, I felt he was more than just a person who I worked with. I knew him only for a couple of weeks then but I saw him as my friend, as a brother - as a part of my family. Federico was an epitome of compassion, kindness and love. I was fortunate enough to have had him as my mentor and have had so many memorable moments in the three years I worked with him that I will remember forever. We will miss you Federico. _________________​ A Federico le encantaba el aire libre y sabía mucho sobre la naturaleza del Pacífico Noroeste más que nadie. Para pasar un tiempo al aire libre, decidimos ir en un viaje de montanas en un fin de semana de invierno. Siendo un novato, no estaba bien equipado y empecé a resbalar en el hielo y seguí cayendo. Mirando cómo estaba luchando con caminar sobre hielo con zapatillas, Federico rápidamente quitó el único equipo de hielo (tacos y bastón de senderismo) que estaba usando y lo lo puso alrededor de mis zapatos para protegerme. ​ Federico caminó durante varios kilómetros sin ningún equipo de hielo, cojeando y resbalando en el hielo, arriesgando su propia seguridad, para que pueda caminar / caminar sin lastimarme.​ No se lo pensó dos veces en ese momento, estaba preocupado por mi seguridad más que por la suya. Sadhana Viswanathan I still remember the every first time I met Federico for my FTE interview. I knew from others at that time that he is very smart and intelligent and he floored me with his kindness and humility. He is a beautiful mix of talent and compassion. I was fortunate to work with him on some interesting projects and have always enjoyed watching him tackle complex, impactful problems methodically and with rigorous passion. There is so much I have learnt from him and needless to say he was a great role model. I am lost for words and cannot comprehend the void that he has left. Sanjeev Jagtap When I joined in May, I saw the annual Hackathon emails and was intrigued. Pretty soon I realized this was one of Federico's many talents and sought him out. Federico opened up his Hackathon playbook to me that I used for my own Hack and that got me hooked till date. Very methodical and a believer in preparation and hard work with a talent for communicating his ideas. What I remember though most is as someone who was kind, humble, and always willing to listen, help, and mentor. Too young to go so soon. Perhaps that's why he was in a hurry to accomplish so much in a short time... Cuando me empecé en mayo, y vi los correos electrónicos acerca del Hackathon, me intrigó. Also everytime my family walked by him on a walk, we would always be greeted with a joyful and bright individual. Lorie Tais I knew Federico mainly from his amazing work involving Hack for Good. A brilliant mind with a big heart…Federico is gone too soon. But what a meaningful life he lived, just looking at the projects he worked on to help make the world a better place, especially for children. This video was from last year's Hackathon. My hack team's table was next to Federico's, and I think he was actually leading 3 hack for good projects simultaneously. When I toured our CVP, Mary Ellen Smith, to visit the hack teams led by people in MBO, Federico explained their various hack projects. One of them was Music as Language where the team was helping non-verbal individuals learn to speak through music. Before we left, I remember Federico telling Mary Ellen the team would be making a video singing with the kids that afternoon. MES challenged Federico that she wanted to see proof of him singing. Federico delivered, of course! Thank you, Federico! So glad we have this video to remember you by. Samantha Reynolds Federico and Kodiak, whom we all got to know so well over the last few months during the pandemic on all our Teams calls. She always barked at the most inappropriate times. :) I can't put into words how much I enjoyed working with Federico. He was thoughtful, funny, and so very, very passionate about not only his regular work, but also his Hacks for Good and NGO work. I also remember how he would be heads down in his office (across from mine) and then I would put new chocolate out on the chocolate table, and his head would come up, he'd pop out of his office right away and start diving right in, letting me know what he liked and appreciated about each new chocolate he tried. But that was Federico. He was always learning, always engaged and present and positive, and so very generous in so many different ways. The world is a less brighter place without him here with us. Federico y Kodiak, a quienes todos llegamos a conocer tan bien en los últimos meses durante la pandemia en todas nuestras llamadas de los equipos. Siempre ladraba en los momentos más inapropiados. :)​ No puedo decir lo mucho que disfruté trabajar con Federico. Mike Novasio words cannot express the joy that I got from seeing Federico as I would pass by his office. I would stop to see what he was working on, who he was helping, what he was reading, or what he was growing in his 'garden'. one day I notice this rather large book 'how do survive a bear attack' to which I said - that book really should be one sentence 'run faster than the slowest person'. we laughed and he went on to actually start summarizing the content of the three inch 500 page book. on sunday I was hiking Wallace Falls and he popped into my head because of that exchange on the book and I made a mental note to check in with him on monday. this exchange about the book makes me laugh - "throw the book at the bear!" Federico was witty, kind, curious, compassionate and caring - he was a good human. words cannot express the pain that I got from hearing of Federico's passing - I pray for his soul and family. truly blessed to have worked with him and will miss him dearly ------ Palabras no pueden expresar la alegría que obtenía al ver a Federico cuando yo pasaba por su oficina. Felix Anand Arulraj I joined Microsoft under Federico. My experience working with him was very short, but was more than enough for me too see in him how energetic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable he was. He made sure I am comfortable onboarding and I have best experience here in Microsoft. He talked about how our project impacts the people around us. I remember how he introduced the members in the team by asking them narrate funny incidents, so that I remember everyone not just by name but by incidents. Federico's narrated how the bunnies stole carrots from his garden every time he planted one and his efforts to keep the carrots safe. He is a manager who created work item in VSO to make sure the team together goes for lunch some day. I will definitely miss his wits, his mentorship and opportunity to work with him. I had lots of questions to ask him. But all that I ask of him now is for his soul to rest in peace and for his family and his family at Microsoft to find the inner peace. _________________​ Me uní a Microsoft bajo Federico. Stacie LaPlaca I met Federico in 2014 when we participated on a hack for good project. In my first engagement with him I was impacted by his depth of knowledge, his intensity and commitment as well his gentle nature. Months later I was delighted when he made the decision to join our team. Federico became a trusted advisor and as I look at our team which has grown over 10x since he joined – I can see his influence across everything we do. I enjoyed our conversations immensely, we were different but together we could look at all angles of a topic – and we did. 😊 His engagement was deep and he was always ready to provide his thoughts on a solution for a wide variety of topics. At the same time he was open to learning new things and often our conversations ended with him saying, “hmm… that is interesting.” Whenever this happened I knew the next time we met he would come with new ideas and a fresh perspective and we would continue to build an approach, an idea, a solution together. The day after I learned of his passing I captured this photo which reminded me of our conversations about the outdoors as a way to disconnect from work and technology. In these discussions he would share his love of the Pacific Northwest Mountains and I shared my love of the water. He gave of himself so freely and asked for nothing in return. He was truly a bright light who inspired me and so many others. It was such an honor to work with him and watch him grow by following his passion to use technology to help others. Thank you for Federico for being an inspiration and sharing your love with all of us. Edward Dixon Federico was one of the first people that I met when I began to work on using technology to protect children; in hindsight, this was no great coincidence, because the scope of his efforts and collaborations was enormous. I was lucky enough to collaborate directly with him on a complex volunteer project that he was developing for Thorn on a volunteer basis. When later I visited Seattle and spent time with him away from computers, he was a fantastic host - I remember especially a beautiful hike in the Cascade mountains. His technical ability, his drive, and his compassion set an example that few can equal, but the tools that he built live on. In his memory, we will continue his work. I include pictures of him hiking in the Cascades, kayaking with friends on Lake Washington, and demoing his software to the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella. Federico fue una de las primeras personas que conocí cuando comencé a trabajar en el uso de la tecnología para proteger a los niños; en retrospectiva, esto no fue una gran coincidencia, porque el alcance de sus esfuerzos y colaboraciones fue enorme. Federico was my first manager at Microsoft and he made my intern experience amazing. It was always a pleasure to have random conversations with him about pretty much everything. I learned that some people use their 24 hours to do things while others use their 24 hours to do amazing things. Thank you for seeing the potential in me as you were my interviewer, thank you for believing in me during my internship, and thank you for being an amazing human that showed me that the day has more than 24 hours because when you give your hours for an amazing cause, you may be giving more hours to people that are struggling. Thank you for being a caring, thoughtful, and genuine human being. I hope you are solving some challenging issues for people in another realm :). _________________ Comida gratis. Para la mayoría de la gente, la comida gratis en el trabajo ya no es algo emocionante. Para Federico, era una misión encontrar comida gratis. Era el último hacker y practicante joven en la empresa. Federico fue mi primer gerente en Microsoft e hizo que mi experiencia fuera increíble. Siempre fue un placer tener conversaciones aleatorias con él sobre casi todo. Aprendí que algunas personas usan sus 24 horas para hacer cosas mientras que otras usan sus 24 horas para hacer cosas increíbles. Isa Gomez Fede was the light in our lives. He always protected us and gave us all his love. Maybe not everyone knows this, but Fede was the funniest person and he was a great dancer too!! He was also the kindest, the brightest and the sweetest person. Fede was my person. He always believed in me and rooted for me and always had my back no matter what. He was my soulmate, my hope in this world that sometimes seemed so dark, my reason to believe. Please help me keep Fede's light sparking by doing good. After reading this memorial page, I am a very sister by realizing amazing things he did in his life, so please keep posting! :)
