Family and friends
Adrian Wishart David's early years. Born in London 1943 to James and Margaret. He then spent many happy years of his childhood growing up in the rugged natural beauty of Cornwall. He was very close to his Nanna who lived in Porthleven and spent many days outdoors, at the beach and looking after pets and animals.
Adrian Wishart David's teenage years saw him move back from Cornwall to London. (Even his pet crow came with him after - he had nursed it back to health after it injured it's wing.)
Adrian Wishart David's favourite place was St Andrews where he spent a number of happy years at University and where he met Doreen. Lovely photos of Doreen and David happy together and they married in 1967. He was awarded a BSC in Maths / Physics and a PHD in Numerical Taxonomy.

Neville Wishart One of our New Zealand Wishart family wanted to have some sterling silver assayed in Edinburgh and David, ever obliging, was the go-between with the Assay Office. We had the pleasure of meeting him and Doreen at the office and then later joining them for lunch where David's reward was to make good use of the assayed goblets.

Sebastiaan Smits David was a true legend. I'll never forget his kindness, his humour, the way he used to get lost in Ghent and above all his formidable knowledge of whisky. We already missed him when he stopped visiting the festivals in The Netherlands and Belgium and we will miss him even more now. Fois dhut!

David inspired a group of his recent neighbours to set up ‘adventure’ lunches by inviting the group to a meal for Doreen’s birthday . It was very successful , greatly enjoyed by all parties and enhanced by his presence - always charming and with a keen and mischievous wit . We will miss him .
George Wishart All of us, the wider Wishart family, owe David a lot for his foresight, energy and hard work for us and especially for his lighting the beacon, wishart.org, to be visible all over the world. Not only that - he was great fun to know. George and Mary Wishart Borgue

Sonya Cameron From Max and Sonya Cameron, Australia: We were befriended by David and Doreen while working in London nearly 50 years ago and have remained warm friends ever since. David was generous with his time, good humour, intellect and whisky! We stayed with them in Edinburgh, visiting St Andrews (see photo) and Speyside distilleries. We met up again in Australia for Mark's wedding and subsequent visits, including helping at David's whisky talks down-under. David always impressed with his generosity and welcoming spirit, especially when we were new to the UK. May he rest in peace knowing that we really appreciated his friendship and the great times we had together.
Fiona Holman As well as being the author of Whisky Classified, David was also a major contributor to The World of Whisky, a wonderful gift book covering top whiskies from around the world, published in October 2019. David was pleased that Scottish distilleries still accounted for more than one-third of this book, and was happy to acknowledge that we had to include some world class whiskies from such upstart newcomers as Japan, Australia and Finland!
Fiona Holman Thank you David for two wonderful books on whisky. I much enjoyed working with you on Whisky Classified, updated many times, most recently in September 2018 and which included many of your photographs of distilleries all over Scotland.
